Caline Aoun: The Threshold of Impermanence

Solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum and the Kunsthalle Appenzell

Caline Aoun

The Threshold of Impermanence

Caline Aoun's solo exhibition, The Threshold of Impermanence, spans the Kunstmuseum and the Kunsthalle Appenzell, exploring the conditions under which natural and artificial systems emerge, operate, and change. Aoun's internationally established practice makes invisible processes sensually perceptible and addresses central contemporary issues—ecological fragility, technological penetration, and the management of time and resources. The exhibition does not present finished works, but rather ongoing processes that transform over time, depending on space, climate, and use. At the Kunstmuseum, the focus is on the elemental and natural—on water, light, warmth, and time as forces that precede images and meanings. At the Kunsthalle, the perspective shifts to the cultural: to language, image production, and technological systems through which perception, circulation, and meaning arise. The exhibition responds precisely to the architectural and atmospheric conditions of the art museum and the art gallery, posing the question of how the constellations of apparatuses and forms structure perception, influence states, and create reality.
